Christopher Street Day (CSD) in Cologne is one of the biggest and most colorful events of the year, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors every year in July. It is an extraordinary event with great people and a great atmosphere.

The CSD demonstration, as the associated parade is officially called, is the largest CSD demonstration in Europe. It traditionally starts on Sunday (date: July 21, 2024) and is the crowning highlight of the Cologne Pride weeks, during which the city becomes a colorful meeting place for people of all sexual orientations. CSD Cologne thus sets an example for equality and tolerance and offers everyone a good opportunity to express their support for the LGBTQ+ community.

A typical deployment day at the CSD demo for personal protection

We have already been deployed several times at the Christopher Street Day Parade in Cologne. E.g., our client booked a bodyguard for the day of the CSD demo to accompany him through the hustle and bustle of the event around Cologne’s city center.

Unfortunately, major events such as these nowadays offer a target for offenders with different motivations. The motivations, as different as they may be, all have one and the same goal: to cause the greatest possible public damage.

Accordingly, the security guard’s focus was not only on directly escorting the protected person within the parade, but also on using the least frequented routes possible when moving through Cologne’s city center. Alternative routes were planned and an evacuation point was determined. The bodyguard also carried medical equipment for emergency care.

So far, all operations have gone smoothly and everyone involved has had an eventful day at this event.
